The composition of materials - together with the morphology - determines functionality. Various analysis methods are available in the working group Mathur to investigate the material composition. Organic components can be examined utilizing infrared spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffractometry for phase clarification of crystalline materials and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy for the atomic composition are available. Together with electron microscopic morphology studies, the transformation of molecular starting compounds into a material can be investigated.
